A contemporary workspace where daylight and flexible planning support work, comfort, and connection
The L’Oréal Regional Office at South City Business Park, Kolkata, is designed as a refined, human-centred workplace that balances performance with comfort. Spanning 8,175 sq. ft., the office reflects L’Oréal’s identity through a design that is adaptable and intuitive, shaped by daylight, spatial flexibility, and sensitivity to user experience.
The layout responds directly to the building’s glazed façade, addressing heat gain and visual comfort through thoughtful spatial organisation. Areas of prolonged occupancy, such as workstations and collaborative zones, are positioned along the perimeter to benefit from natural light, while meeting rooms and service areas are positioned towards the core. This approach ensures light is distributed where it is most needed while improving energy efficiency across the floorplate.
To moderate glare and the uneven effects of tinted glazing, workstations are carefully oriented and complemented by curtains and blinds that regulate daylight. This enables the workspace to remain visually comfortable throughout the day, allowing daylight to shape the ambience without overwhelming it.

Flexibility is central to the office’s design. The layout accommodates 52 workstations, multiple meeting rooms, breakout zones, and phone booths, supporting both collaborative and focused modes of work. Flexible seating options allow employees to choose how and where they work, while adaptable meeting rooms can accommodate varying group sizes and future needs. Acoustic considerations are carefully integrated, creating a balanced environment across open and enclosed spaces.
The office adopts an earthy material palette that reflects the brand’s identity, combining muted tones with tactile elements that lend warmth and reduce visual fatigue. Wicker lighting, acoustic fixtures, and murals by local artists introduce cultural context and a sense of place within the contemporary setting.
The cafeteria, located at a prime corner of the plan, is bathed in natural light and shaped by organic forms that encourage interactions. Biophilic elements and natural materials further enhance well-being, grounding the environment in calm and sensory comfort. The L’Oréal Regional Office emerges as a workplace that evolves with its users in an adaptable, climate-responsive environment where productivity, well-being, and identity coexist.
