Reinterpreting classic French elegance for L’opera pâtisserie and boulangerie through intimate, meticulously crafted cafés.

The brief

Spanning over a decade-long collaboration, the association between L’Opera and group DCA has evolved into a carefully crafted design journey. From the brand’s earliest outlets, group DCA has been entrusted with both the design and execution of L’Opera’s spaces, consistently reflecting the elegance and charm of a French pâtisserie, boulangerie, and salon de thé.

Each L’Opera outlet is designed to evoke Parisian sophistication while remaining warm, inviting, and rooted in everyday functions. The interiors balance luxury with intimacy, drawing from classic French design cues and translating them into spaces that feel timeless yet approachable. Across locations, the design language remains cohesive, allowing each outlet to be recognisable while responding sensitively to its setting.

A carefully curated palette of pastels paired with richer tones introduces contrast, depth, and visual warmth, lending each space a sense of understated opulence. Lighting is strategically layered with hanging luminaires highlighting display counters, while soft, generous ambient lighting ensures comfort and visual continuity across the store. Select stores extend this experience beyond indoor spaces into pergola structures, creating seamless outdoor seating environments. Thoughtfully detailed with street lamps, outdoor furniture, and plush seating arrangements, these zones reflect the relaxed café culture of European streets. The interiors continue this narrative, unfolding as quaint, layered spaces designed for lingering conversations and unhurried indulgence.

Designed and crafted by DCA Workshop, bespoke furniture pieces are detailed to reflect the charm of French classicism. Louis XVI–inspired wooden furniture, marble-topped tables, and delicate floral accents recall traditional Parisian cafés. Oval-back chairs with carved armrests, woven textures, and rich upholstery introduce tactility and warmth, reinforcing the inviting character of the cafés.

Floor-to-ceiling glass façades amplify the “see-and-be-seen” atmosphere, connecting the interiors with the street and inviting passers-by into the experience. Italian stone flooring, coupled with tile-clad walls, seamlessly blends with the furniture, colour palette, and lighting strategy. These thoughtfully designed outlets form a cohesive spatial expression of L’Opera’s identity, creating spaces that celebrate French refinement, craftsmanship, and the pleasure of slowing down, brought to life through consistent design intent and meticulous execution.
