A vibrant community destination where historic memory meets contemporary spatial drama.
Designed as a contemporary interpretation of the traditional civic gathering space, Townhall reimagines the idea of a ‘town hall’ as a vibrant community destination for interaction, exchange, and shared experiences. Rooted in the spirit of dialogue and conviviality, each outpost is envisioned as a social anchor where atmosphere and hospitality converge to create spaces that encourage lingering conversations and collective energy.
At the heart of every Townhall lies the main hall—an expansive yet articulated volume designed to host casual meetings, celebrations, and spontaneous interactions. The bar, a defining element across locations, develops its own intrinsic character within each spatial context. While the broader design language remains cohesive, the bar becomes a focal point, responding to site, scale, and cultural nuances with distinct material and spatial expressions.
Adopting a contemporary design vocabulary within the layered backdrop of colonial heritage and the industrial optimism of a newly independent nation, the interiors negotiate history and modernity with contemporary refinement and clarity. Structural elements are celebrated rather than concealed, and material choices reference both European classicism and industrial robustness, creating an environment that feels storied yet current.
At Townhall Gurugram, the octagonal site becomes the generator of form and flow. Cast-aluminium columns introduce rhythm and proportion, evoking a subtle European aesthetic while demarcating zones within the open hall. Overhead, metal girders tie the geometry together, visually lowering the volume to cultivate intimacy without compromising grandeur. A variety of seating typologies, each framed by highlighted backdrops, offer diverse spatial experiences, from animated communal tables to more secluded corners. Antique mirrors punctuate the interiors, functioning like evolving artworks that shift perspective and amplify depth from every vantage point.
At Townhall Khan Market, the narrative responds to its historic context by recreating detailed cornices that restore a colonial sensibility. Here, lighting becomes central to the spatial experience. Carefully layered illumination focuses on people and conversations, with pendant fixtures and individual table lamps generating pools of warmth. Offering an environment where mood and memory intertwine, the design for Townhall celebrates character and the enduring pleasure of community gathering under one roof.
