A contemporary bistro that blends rustic warmth and understated luxury into an intimate escape from the city’s urban rhythm.

The brief

Amour Bistro is envisioned as an intimate urban retreat that softens the intensity of its metropolitan context through warmth, material richness, and understated elegance. Designed to feel effortless and inviting, the restaurant balances the pulse of contemporary city life with the familiarity of handcrafted textures and earthy tones, creating a dining environment rooted in both comfort and character.

The design language draws from a restrained palette of natural materials and simple architectural gestures. A major retrofit of the façade introduces expansive glazing and new openings, maximising height, light, and visual openness within the existing structure. This transparent envelope allows the restaurant to transition seamlessly through seasons, blurring the threshold between indoors and outdoors while creating a light-filled environment throughout the day.

Planned around an open spatial philosophy, the interiors prioritise fluid movement and an uncluttered seating arrangement. Wooden trellises, tall windows, antique mirrors, and textured stone surfaces establish a layered visual continuity, while muted contemporary tones are punctuated with yellow planter boxes and rustic finishes that introduce warmth and vibrancy. Hand-tumbled sandstone flooring and wooden slatted ceilings lend tactility to the space, reinforcing its grounded and relaxed atmosphere.

Furniture and lighting are carefully curated to enhance this balance between rustic charm and contemporary refinement. Black metal chairs paired with sandblasted bespoke seating, custom-designed wall lights, and vintage-inspired detailing create a dining experience that feels both polished and familiar. Locally sourced Delhi stone clads the kitchen and restroom walls, celebrating material honesty and local craftsmanship. In the restrooms, traditional stone inlay techniques are reinterpreted within terrazzo surfaces and paired with vintage fixtures, adding a subtle layer of indulgence.

A double-height volume anchors the restaurant’s interior experience. One side is amplified by an antique mirror, while the opposite edge features a life-sized orchestra installation overlooking the open kitchen from above. At the centre, a dramatic floor-to-ceiling wine wall introduces depth, colour, and a strong visual identity visible even from outside. Carefully calibrated lighting transforms the ambience by evening, allowing the restaurant to shift seamlessly from a sunlit café into a warm, atmospheric dining destination. Together, these elements create a timeless and immersive hospitality experience shaped through restraint, materiality, and quiet sophistication.
