A Journey Through Books, Steps, and Adventure – A Store Design That Inspires Imagination!

The Story Project by Primarc Group is an inviting one-stop destination for books, games, toys, and stationery. The space draws inspiration from the grandeur of classical libraries and the architectural depth of Indian step-wells, creating a multi-layered experience. Towering shelves and thoughtful design invite visitors to linger, explore, and immerse themselves in a world of discovery.

The layout features three levels of interconnected walkways, eliminating ground-level supports for an open circulation plan. Linked by steps that serve as display spaces, these walkways balance connectivity and privacy. The stepwell-inspired staircase, unlike traditional spirals, adds an interactive dimension, connecting the levels and encouraging exploration.

The bookstore’s design focuses on utility and experience, with suspended walkways made from 25mm checkered sheets that offer structural integrity and minimalism. The space beneath the staircases serves as display areas, creating layered collections. This innovative use of space enables a more expansive collection, showcasing efficiency and creativity.

The design creates an immersive experience with quiet reading nooks and a dynamic layout that encourages movement and pause. Inspired by traditional libraries, it features steps that double as reading spots, integrated with bookshelves along the pathways. This balance of functional spaces and strategic pause points transforms the bookstore into an interactive, engaging journey.

The Story Project celebrates space, lineage, and creativity, reimagining a small footprint into a sensory-rich design. Its name reflects the space’s unique narrative, rooted in Kolkata’s intellectual and literary legacy. Elements like the stepwell-inspired structure honour the past, while modern design translates these influences into a vibrant, contemporary experience.
