A modern home that nods to the neoclassical style and celebrates the essence of a family life.
House of Two Worlds in Gurugram is a residence that masterfully balances individuality and togetherness for two families under one roof. The design features two distinct duplex-style homes, each with a spiral staircase and vertical cut-outs that link the residences, promoting interaction while preserving family values. Combining Neoclassical grandeur with contemporary comfort, the home tells a story of family, connection, and the harmonious fusion of tradition and modernity.
The design separates living and entertainment spaces, with the father and one son on the lower floors and the other son on the upper. Independent entries and shared parking ensure privacy without compromising cohesion. Spiral staircases and vertical cut-outs promote interaction while maintaining privacy. Dedicated entertainment floors offer adaptability, balancing personal and communal spaces. A lift and internal staircase connect the entertainment floor to the stilt level and living spaces above, ensuring a smooth flow between private and shared areas.
The upper ground floor of the residence is a vibrant family hub featuring a lounge, kitchen, dining area, powder room, mandir, guest bedroom, and the father’s suite. The spacious family lounge is bathed in soft morning light from a northeast corner window, creating an inviting, warm atmosphere. The open-plan layout seamlessly connects the TV and dining areas, offering views of lush greenery and providing a cosy, relaxing space for the family to gather and unwind. This thoughtful design drives comfort and connection, making it the perfect setting for family moments.
A striking spiral staircase within a double-height volume connects the two levels, guiding the flow and functionality of the space. Transcending its utilitarian purpose, it becomes a sculptural design element, with thoughtfully curated alcoves nestled within its curve. These niches house art, decor, and personal collectibles, enriching the lounge with a sense of character and family heritage.
On the upper floor is an informal lounge, once envisioned as a gym and now enclosed in glass. It has become a beloved gathering spot for music, conversation, and the lively chatter of young girls who predominantly occupy the upper floors. The lounge furniture reflects this dynamic purpose, featuring low-height pieces with unconventional shapes and proportions. These designs double as functional art installations, making a bold statement within the space.
At the rear of the house, the daughter’s bedroom feels like a peaceful getaway. A bay window frames a calming view of greenery outside, while the soft beige and white tones create a soothing environment. The furniture, with its refined fluting and moulding, adds a touch of elegance, while the parquet flooring brings warmth and richness to the space.
